What happens if a caregiver cannot make a shift?
Backup planning is part of care coordination. OPA’s published live-in care plan includes two rotating primary caregivers and a backup caregiver for continuity. Confirm who to contact and how replacement coverage will be handled for your specific schedule before care begins.
Do you accept VA Community Care Network referrals?
Yes. OPA is a VA Community Care Network provider. VA determines eligibility and authorizes the care; the authorization must be in place before VA-paid services begin.
How does care begin?
Call us to discuss your loved one’s needs, timeline, and schedule. We will explain the available care options and arrange the next steps.
What does a care plan cover?
A care plan helps organize routines, support needs, schedule, and important considerations for care at home.
What can caregivers help with at home?
Caregivers can help with everyday routines such as mobility, bathing, dressing, meals, companionship, light housekeeping, and medication reminders when those supports are part of the care plan.
How do you match caregivers?
We discuss your loved one’s needs, routines, preferences, and schedule, then confirm the care plan with the family.
Can caregivers help with medication?
Caregivers may provide medication reminders and help organize a clearly labeled pill box when that support is appropriate to the care plan. Medication administration and clinical decisions require licensed clinical direction.
Can a caregiver help with transportation?
Yes. Transportation and errands can be part of a care plan, including help getting to appointments or picking up necessities.
Can you help after a hospital or rehabilitation discharge?
Call before the planned discharge when possible. Have the expected return date, discharge instructions, support needed with bathing, meals and mobility, and the hours family can cover ready. OPA can discuss available support and confirm the schedule and start details before care begins. Ask the discharge team to clarify any clinical instructions. In secondary counties, caregiver coverage must be confirmed before OPA promises a start date.
Can you help with long-term care insurance or Veteran care?
Yes. We can help you understand long-term care insurance and VA Community Care Network care. Insurance carriers and VA make final coverage and authorization decisions.
